All good things must come to an end. To the dismay of many, ClassPass announced this past week that it has discontinued its wildly famous Unlimited plan. Many can attribute ClassPass to their newfound love of fitness. For others, it played a huge role in their fitness lifestyle. Sadly, its Unlimited plan was what made ClassPass worth it. If you are like me, you might be considering having the difficult “It’s not me, it’s you” conversation with ClassPass. You might be wondering what life after ClassPass looks like. Is it true that there are plenty of fish in the sea? Or is it a matter of the grass isn’t always greener on the other side? Be what it may, now is the time to look at the menu and try some sampling. I’ve come up with four main alternatives that might be worth trying in NYC (although other cities have some similar alternatives): Fitreserve, the gym, Gilt City, and New Client Specials.

Today, the fitness world can mourn the death of ClassPass’s Unlimited plan. People–time to start looking for other alternatives.
With so many boutique fitness studios poppin’ up all over the city, it takes a lot for one to differentiate itself from the rest. Enter: Refine Method. New York’s Smartest Workout. I heard the story and couldn’t wait to try it. When Brynn retired from her professional ballet career; she had to find a new way to keep her body fit. While looking for her first gym ever, she started questioning all the myths surrounding fitness and was disillusioned with the slow progress made with typical workouts. Brynn went in search for the right workout. She traveled the country learning from top athletes, trainers, coaches, and scientists and the result was her own method, the Refine Method. The workout is geared towards achieving fast results. “By ‘refining’ the piles of information out there and giving only the best to our clients, we hope to produce a ‘refined’ body – lean, proportional and fit” (Brynn Putnam).
Relaxation in a spin class? Unheard of? Nope. Monday’s spin class instructor at Revolve Fitness in Union Square kept encouraging us to relax. Throughout the class, I could hear relax your shoulders, relax your arms, relax your fingers. One would think that the word relax in a cycling room with dark lighting and pumping music don’t mix. Add to that the typical shouted words of encouragement “don’t give up” and the dreaded “ACCELERATE.” Safe to say, the word relax was unusual but very well received.
